Arizona State Poetry Society Member Inherits Established Literary Journal
Nine years ago and seven years ago David (DE) Navarro had several poems published in a poetry and fiction journal known as Better Than Starbuck (BTS). Another ASPS member, Gene Twaronite, also had poetry published by them, and maybe some others in ASPS too. BTS nominated poets for well known literary awards like the Pushcart and four of its poets and one author won prestigious prizes. The journal gained international attention and a great reputation and was listed by many journal review sites with high marks. DE Navarro got to know the owner and publisher as well as the editor-in-chief and became friends with them. The owner/publisher died in December 2025 and Navarro inherited the company (Better Than Starbucks Publishing House) and journal from his estate. Navarro retained the former editor-in-chief and rehired a team of 10 highly credentialed editors to revive the journal with Volume 8, Number 1 coming in September 2026. Submissions are now open for the rejuvenation of Better Than Starbucks Poetry & Fictionjournal. BTS does NOT charge any kind of submission fees or reading fees. They never have and claim they never will. BTS is published online and in print. Please see the BTS website for submission guidelines: https://www.betterthanstarbucks.org/submission-guidelines. BTS publishes works in 17 different categories of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, including poetry for children, free verse, formal/traditional/rhyme, short forms, haiku, avant-garde, and many more. Submission is simple, just send the work by email to their submission address (betterthanstarbucks2@gmail.com) [see website for details].
